Official announcement… We will be dropping back to 3 strips this week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday). We should conclude SOTME in the next two weeks. We’ll then be taking a break for the rest of December and starting TESB in January. There will be a few teasers at least.
Before you get bent out of shape, this scene really IS in the book and comic adaptation by Dark Horse. Not content to simply force choke or strangle a troublesome Imperial officer, Vader splits Grammel in half with his ligthsaber!
Arnold Schwarzenegger voice: I know you were hoping Grammel would stick around, but he had to split. Damn… Sorry T. Of course, Grammel really had this coming after abusing the crap out of Leia in that interrogation scene. What does this mean for Luke who bitch slapped Leia earlier in the story? Uh oh…
It was hard to ignore this scene for our parody. We couldn’t resist finding the humor in the situation in typical BMS fashion. Yeah, I know Vader is riding a hover skiff thing in the comic, but I think you all know why he’s in a six-wheeled swamp crawler in ours. ;=

The Vader/TK8008 double-act is really starting to take root now – this is great!
The phrase ‘…easily distracted Vader.’ sums it all up, really.
I’m enjoying them too. I could see a short series of comics on the two of them just goofing off around the galaxy.

Jesus Christ! It’s even more shocking in the DH comic. I’d actually forgotten that bit (how did I?)
Vader’s ineptitude with the saber is actually quite apt. I mean, really, once you’ve grown up – the Obi Wan/Vader duel in ANH is pretty amateur and geriatric looking! Especially the way Alec Guinness twirls his around – like a kid drawing a wee circle with a halloween sparkler!

Looking at this again, I also like the lack of dialogue. In the two middle panels you’ve skillfully and thoughtfully ommitted and text at all – which heightend the comedic effect.
I also like the fact that Vader is even vaguely interested in chatting with, impressing, and taking advice from a lowly Trooper!
Is that the first time there has been blood in BMS ?
I’m no expert but that milk carton looks like it has a bad motivator.

Just read that he died while still working on film and photography, he did what he loved until his last days. :=( And Leslie Nielson just died this weekend, also at 84.

For some reason BMS Vader seems to respond better to the lower ranks than he does to the stuff officers.
Re: non-OT parodies… Well, considering even TESB is not a 100% certainty right now we simply can not think that far ahead. If we manage to get TESB done (which will take a minimum of 7 to 8 months then the next thing we’ll consider is ROTJ. We used to think doing the whole OT was a given, but life is getting in our way of late. :-/
You just have to do the whole OT, even if it takes a year or two. BMS is very funny stuff and deserves to be completed.
I think he’s tired with it all. The lower orders give him a nice break. He feels like one of the guys again.
I think even just simple 1 panel parodies of some of the prequel scenes would be WAY more than enough. I mean, Jar Jar was made for this kind of thing!
PS, another good parody, although aimed more towards DND players, is “Darths and Droids”
At least it doesn’t occur to him to kill all the witnesses of his carelessness. Back to The Force Unleashed, Vader can kill EVERYONE, including storm troopers who are supposedly on HIS side.
I’m sure I’m not the first person to notice this, but there shouldn’t be any blood in that panel. Not because this is a kid’s comic (far from), but lightsabers instantly cauterize wounds. Come to think of it, that’s pretty strange logic.

Perhaps that is why Vader and TK8008 are surprised?
I seem to recall seeing some blood on Walrus Man/Ponda Baba’s decapitated arm (not to mention the bloody head that was cut out of the final film).
I think we have to blame Lucas for the bad precident, and not BMS this time.

Glad to hear you refer to him as Walrus Man! I remember that from the ’70s action figures. I only learned the name ‘Ponda Baba’ from Neil a few weeks ago.
I seem to recall a discussion about Ponda Baba right here in one of these comment threads where I posted a picture of the unused shot of his armless and decapitated head/body. Ben really went to work on him in the Lost Cut.
Could be. Maybe the guy has a blood condition where his hemoglobin doesn’t cauterize. That or maybe Vader’s lightsaber’s temperature is turned down somewhat low.
Or maybe the guy suffered an explosive brain aneurysm right after the saber split his skull.
Or a tomato exploded.

Will TK8008 become a regular (or at least recurring) character? Darth Vader usually has stormtroopers with him so it wouldn’t be that hard to keep him around.

Strange I always thought of him as being bisected horizontally when I read the book.
I notice that DV doesn’t need nuts on HIS truck! He probably had a big ol’ pair of ball bearings fitted down there after his “little accident” in the lava.
