Not for the first time, we’ve been notified of our work being stolen and passed off as someone else’s, edited without credit, and altered. On Sunday, our day hit a downer when we were informed of a guy on Facebook who had taken our well known “Bothans” strip, featuring Admiral Ackbar and Mon Mothma, and cut out our disclaimer and copyright info before changing the dialogue into political commentary.

When challenged about this by a reader, he at first claimed it was HIS work. Then he caved and added a credit mentioning us and our site. When we responded to him about the theft, he became defensive and refused to delete the piece at our request. The best we could do was state to everyone that this guy did not have our permission to use our artwork, and that we wanted it removed. On top of that, we do not want our work associated with politicized material. We’re pretty sure that like us, our readers like to spend as much time in a galaxy far, far away, as possible.

Obviously, we’re upset that the guy is not backing down and complying with our wishes. I have filed a report against him via Facebook. In the mean time, let the record show that we do not approve of this guy’s actions and his words, slapped onto our work, are not our thoughts or opinions.

As of writing, the guy has now removed our credit / acknowledgement from his post in spite.

See the post for yourself below. Please also be aware he is actively deleting and editing the comments threads. Fortunately readers have taken screenshots of the comments that have been deleted.

An unpleasant reminder that the world is full of unpleasant people. This blog could have been about today’s strip, after all, but instead here we are trying to protect our work and reputation.

Thanks to all the readers / friends that are watching our back and standing with us. It’s never fun having one’s work stolen and used either for profit, or simply out of context (with or without credit). The worst case of this was when Leanne’s “Baltimore Birds” T-shirt design was stolen and printed and sold on T-shirt at markets around the state by an unscrupulous thief. Ultimately, our lawyer was able to get him to cease and desist. It also happened with some of Leanne’s pinup artwork for Visionaries, as well as another instance of the Bothan’s BMS strip being cropped (to remove our disclaimer and copyright info) and presented as another person’s work several years ago. This stuff does happen, unfortunately too often.

Heir to the Empire was a 1991 Star Wars novel by Timothy Zahn, and the first book in the Thrawn trilogy.

For our Blue Milk Special parody, we are primarily referencing the Dark Horse Comics adaptation and the visualized characters therein, with some influence from video games, as well as our typical made-up nonsense.

After eight years of parodying the Original Trilogy and some of the Expanded Universe material that took place in-between, we are finally able to dive head first into Heir to the Empire… beginning with a slight diversion into the book Tatooine Ghost which is set just before the opening of Heir to the Empire.
