Many months back, Firefly topped our poll of “What’s your second favorite sci-fi adventure?”, ahead of both Star Trek and Doctor Who! So all you Browncoats are finally getting some pay off this week. Today’s strip references the Serenity movie, where Mal puts his foot down and plays dirty. This is a reference to a scene which most Firefly fans should get instantly. A big thanks to T. Gatto for this 3 AM in the morning idea that inspired both myself and, most importantly, Leanne. Oh, and I love Chewie’s canine enthusiasm in the face of peril!

Also a big thanks to Geoff Padilla for the close up shots of the Serenity that I needed at short notice. This strip was as spontaneous as they get and everyone did their part to pull it off with only a few hours to spare. That’s not to downplay my own contribution as co-artist, colorist, and Mr. Finishing-Touch. I often think readers assume I just letter the thing, but I’m much more involved in the nitty gritty side of the art. However, without Leanne’s commitment to this strip and the wonderful last panel, today’s episode would not have been possible. Even more importantly, Tom, “T” as I like to call him, gave us a script worth doing. T has made numerous contributions to Blue Milk Special throughout the life of the project, most memorably with the paper craft milk cartons and the McLucas Trilogy. BMS would be an emptier place without him!

We’re finally getting some notice thanks to Monday’s Firefly crossover and my recent appointment as co-admin of the Retro Star Wars Facebook page! Thanks to all our long time supporters and all our new ones for backing us and sticking with us these past few years. You’ll find numerous Star Wars gems posted throughout the day, from rare photos, memorabilia and jokes. Here are a few examples that I liked. Part of my job is to maintain civility, but also to promote the page (and BMS). So, if you are on Facebook, take a look and hit the “like” button if you haven’t already.

We, of course, have our own Blue Milk Special Facebook fan page which we invite you all to join. Please help spread the word about Blue Milk Special and share with friends if you think they would enjoy the strips. We do not have an advertising budget and we are non-profit, so anything you can do to let people know about the comic is appreciated.

With luck, we will have another strip for Monday and Friday and keep this schedule of two per week ticking along into the new year. Oh… and email me if you want to trade! My list is shrinking. I trade BMS memorabilia like prints and postcards you won’t get anywhere else. See previous post for more details.
