Last night I wrapped up Monday’s strip just before midnight.  I went to check how it would look on the site and I got ad popups swamp the screen.  We quickly realized the site had been hacked.  A number of WordPress sites were affected.  A line of code was placed by the hacker into one of the php files.  I found it and removed the code.  I was advised to upgrade to the latest version of WordPress to help increase security.  However, I didn’t have a backup and half asleep I just went ahead with the automated upgrade.  It broke the administration control panel for the site.  I soon learned that I’d done permanent damage to the site in my efforts to protect it.  No backup.  And my host doesn’t do me the courtesy of backups because our site is too large for their policy.  We must have a few hundred gigs on our server.

*sigh*

So, we have lost the old site.  We have lost all the old posts.  All the blog entries, the photos, the links, the pimping out of friends websites… all gone.  I spent all Monday morning building a brand new site using a new comic press template.  It took hours to upload all the old strips.  This happens just when we were about to get back into the swing of things.

With only 12 strips to go, I’m not going to throw in the towel yet.  Anyway, that’s why the site looks different and why a lot of stuff is missing.
