Introducing Grand Moff Tarkin (played by the legendary Gentleman of Horror, Peter Cushing) who makes his much anticipated debut in this cute little number to close out both the week and the month of May. The Imperial Chick that he’s talking to by holo-chat is Admiral Daala, one creation of Kevin J Anderson that I can at least partially embrace.
Daala and Tarkin took a shine to each other despite the vast chasm of years separating their ages. He took her under his wing and promoted her rapidly through the ranks of the Imperial Navy. Eventually he put her in charge of the secret Maw Installation where the Death Star was constructed. However, the installation was so secretive that no one knew about it outside Tarkin and a few select others. The Grand Moff no doubt planned to use the Sun Crusher against the Emperor, and perhaps even the Death Star had things gone according to plan. However, the Death Star went pop along with our villainous hero, and Daala remained unaware of her lover’s demise for several lonely years guarding the Maw Installation after the fall of the Empire.
Now that I’ve gone geek on you all, I just want you all to know that love is a beautiful thing, and in this case I think it adds much to the character of Tarkin… so Mr. Anderson can be thanked for something (oh and the Tales From Mos Eisely Cantina were pretty good too). Also, Leanne and myself met online and carried out an extremely long distance relationship of own.

This comic makes me smile so much. I never much cared for Tarkin til I discovered the Death Star novel and the whole affair between him and Daala… and they are just so… cute… it made me love Tarkin. XD

I don’t know… sounds, to me, more like he recognised that firing was going to happen whatever he did, and he just wanted to try to regulate it a little bit!
He didn’t pick the target, as Tarkin himself says, Leia’s the one who did that. So if we want to hate anyone for the loss of Alderaan, it really should be Leia!

I don’t suppose you’ll get notified about a comment on a strip that’s several years old, but I think that either the strips or your commentary on them have gotten out of order.
Your commentary indicates that this is the first time that we’ve seen either Tarkin or Admiral Daala, but we just finished a string of several strips they starred in. And Tarkin has appeared in a number of strips prior to that.
