Hello BMSers! As you may have gathered there is a new exclusive Cantina Band strip over at TopWebComics.com which will appear after you vote for our comic. You know, technically you can vote once every 24 hours. That means in one month a diehard BMSer can give us as many as 30 votes, 60 if you vote from home and work and 90 if you also vote from your mobile device. That said, please vote responsibly. Cheating is something BMS Vader, Leia and Biggs would all frown upon strongly.
We have reached the obligatory epic battle that is a part of any good cliched fantasy epic worth its salt. Well… not really. It only lasts a couple of pages in the book and the main cast of heroes escape thanks to the convenient native cannon fodder (much more visible in the book than in our adaptation). The scene echoes a theme that would be used later in Star Wars: humanity vs technology, or the soul vs the machine. The early draft ideas for Star Wars saw Wookiees overthrowing the Empire / Death Star. Here we have the primitive Coway overpowering the Empire. Finally in Return of the Jedi we actually witness the Ewoks (in lieu of Wookiees) pulling together and crushing the Imperial Endor garrison. ROTJ had more fun with it.
Luke, Leia, Halla, C3PO, R2D2 and the two Yuzzem (Kee and Hin) are trapped in the Coways’ cavern… supposedly. The Coway (native people, not pictured in BMS) want to fight and defend their territory from Vader, Grammel and TK8008. I particularly like the emotion on the Coway’s face in panel 2, as she stands beside Leia, like a mother defending a child. ;=
You might have noticed that Vader is still preoccupied with levitating TK8008 being that it is the crux of today’s gag and all. Vader did not consent to float TK8008 around the cavern for strategical value (what value is there in an easier target?) but rather because he thought the guy might as well die in style. I mean, if you’re a Stormtrooper going up against Luke Skywalker and invisible Mimbans, what hope have you? But then again, if Vader is only focusing on TK8008 then there’s just as good a chance that he will be the sole Stormtrooper who survives.
I trust it’s a dry heat down there.

Avatar handled it with such subtlety as well. LOL. I’m kidding! I won’t ever see that film. I’d rather watch the Ewoks fighting the Empire.
I don’t see how everyone tends to look down on avatar. When i saw it, i was suprised that it wasn’t at all as bad as people claimed. sure, it’s not the best thing you’ve ever seen, but it’s far from the worst as well. give it a chance and check it out. Also it’s not weird at all how a tribe of ewoks could fight of the empire with a handfull of rebel commandos: Just blame the Force for working in their favor, it works all the time ;=
The thing is, I’m 32 years old. I’ve spent a lot of that time watching films. And everything in Avatar I’ve seen before. I knew the whole film just from the trailer. Dances with Wolves meets the Endor vs Empire. That blend didn’t excite me, plus I could see the whole plot right there. I knew it wouldn’t surprise me. I might still have given it a go if the CGI aliens didn’t look so cartoony. People have different tastes, Al. Some people don’t even like the flavor orange! Personally that is an eye opener for me. If some people don’t even like orange (Leanne doesn’t) then there is proof right there that there is no universal thing that everyone will just see, taste or hear which we can all agree is awesome. Plus I don’t like Cameron.

Tron is the only film since Matrix and Jurassic Park that I will go to see for the Special Effects alone. I expect Tron to deliver on the story too (hopefully). But normally I do not make a habit out of event movies. Avatar may have some good SFX, but the aliens themselves look retarded. Maybe it’s the bright blue, or the cat eyes, I don’t know, but they just look like cartoon characters slapped into a live action sci-fi film. I had enough of that in the Prequels. ;=

Well, Rod… Having seen avatar, I rather agree. There is no real point in seeing it, as you already have.
Though I beg to know; why is it in every James Cameron film, oodles of Humans get wiped out? He must not like people.

I’m not the biggest fan of humans either, but the Blue Avatar people aren’t much of an alternative. C’mon, Lucas gave us Twi’Leks and Mon Calamari, two of the coolest non-humans ever. I’ll take a blue skinned Twi’Lek over an CGI Avatar alien any day. Force bless you, George Lucas!
Personally, I like humans- as we are capable of great things. I also agree that the Na’Vi are less preferable to a Twi’Lek. However, I never quite understood the obsession with Twi’Leks either. Can you explain, possibly?

Unfortunately, it’s true. Cameron is typical of Hollywood. He’s been given so much, doesn’t appreciate it, and so attacks the very system that allowed him to prosper.
I hate to admit it, but the Mirror Universe of Star Trek was refreshing in once sense: for once, the humans were the ones kicking butt, rather than having it kicked, like most of the science fiction out there. Seems like aliens are always wiping out humanity, starting way back with George Wells.
I hope Grammel survives, I like him.
Besides I don’t thing the Coway’s and Yuzzem should have to roll his fat dead carcass up out of the caves.

Hey wait a second; how come Storm Troopers (and bad guys) always have red blaster rays, while Rebels (and good guys) only shoot blue rays. Have they been watching 80’s G.I. Joe Cartoons again?
If a Storm Trooper picks up a Rebel blaster, and fires it, will the ray be red or blue (or purple for that matter)?
That was actually covered in one of the EU books. I can’t think which one off the top of my mind, but it deals with what gas they use for the blaster power pack. The color of the bolt was determined by where the gas was mined from. As for the shipboard lasers, turbolasers, ion cannons, and laser cannons, made the difference there. The falcon shot red lasers at the ties in ep IV. weapons and ammo determined the color.
HOWEVER! If you watch Star Wars 2 and 3 then you would know the clone blasters shoot blue and they now shoot red. That give you something to think about!
Everything goes red when you are naughty in Star Wars.
We’re going to need to buy new versions of the films once this laser colour thing is fixed.
I picture people being distracted on The Force Unleashed, picking up Wookies and throwing them all over the place; all while other Wookies are stabbing and shooting at Vader during the first stage. I never played the game, but I’ve seen footage and it certainly looks amusing to pick up storm troopers with abandon and fling them around to one’s heart’s content.
