The poll question “How Old Were You When You First Saw Star Wars” has now been closed. The results are in. As might have been expected, most were young children at the time, but interesting to note is the age breakdown of older first time viewers.
Only five people who responded saw Star Wars and got sucked into the whole thing when they were in their twenties, and one of those voters was over 25. I was probably around 3 years old… whatever the normal age is to still be using a potty and still have vague memories. The scene that I remember (I don’t specifically recall actually seeing anything else) was Vader bursting into the Princess’ corvette with the Stormtroopers and choking the captain. I had a black blanket wrapped around me at the time, and I’m sure (aside from appreciating the privacy it was giving me while I sat before the television on my mobile latrine) I probably felt a bit like Vader with that cape. Too bad my first memory of Star Wars has such unfortunate connections. Yes, I’m serious. :-/
For the most part we avoid potty humor. Odd, isn’t it?

Yeah, why not. Why not indirectly pay for this comic? It comes out at least once a week so… a certain fixed amount per week seems reasonable.
BTW: I too always thought the HYDRO-SPANNERS line sounded pretty silly. I mean, what are they? To do with water – or hydraulics – WHAT?!?!? Maybe it just sounds futuristic. Oooooh… sciencey!
Yeah, when I was working on the script for the one I spent a while trying to get a gag out of various ridiculous names for items in the futuristic tool kit. I ended up just keeping a little bit of that and going a different direction with the can opener and Han’s showing off.
And no, we’re not charging for the webcomic. There is no obligation to support us. 🙂
in england, a ‘spanner’ is a wrench.. so a hydrospanner might be a hydraulic wrench.. like a torque wrench.

I was about the same age when i saw a new hope. I dont remember the specifics as precisely as you, but i clearly remember that when i saw it again when I was 10, I clearly remembered seing the deathstar trench fight before. Not in cimema though, as i was born in 79.
Yeah, I was born in ’78. I saw it on TV in England, where I was born. Maybe that extra year I had on you allowed me to fall under the spell a little sooner because I know I loved what I had seen and seemed to have been really excited by it. Return of the Jedi came out not long after I saw Star Wars on tv and my Dad happened to be down in London at the time and went to see it. I remember complaining to my mum at the time that I wish he had taken me. However, had that happened I wouldn’t have seen the trilogy in order. I don’t think I was even aware there was an Empire Strikes Back at that point. We moved to NZ a year later and we rented Empire Strikes Back from a thing called a video store. I believe that might have been the first time my dad saw the middle film of the trilogy too. So, I saw all three films on TV and loved them. Memories!
