Don’t forget the droids
Another quickie and the penultimate strip in the epic A New Hope (Episode IV) story arc. That’s right, on Wednesday we end the mammoth 13 month long parody of the original 1977 movie. But we won’t be heading into The Empire Strikes Back for some months as we have a lot of intervening material to spoof first, including the exploration of a few original mini-adventures of our own. You know what, I’m wondering how you guys are going to do the Carbonite freezing. ‘Cause I swear I’m the only one who notices a difference between Han when he’s going in, and when he comes out in carbonite. He’s bound when he goes in, but when he’s frozen he looks like he was climbing out.
PLUS, when he’s released, he has no binders on. >.>

His binders must’ve frozen, enabling him to shatter them! Everyone knows that Corellians have icewater in their veins, so that’s how he could do it before the carbonite froze him. Or maybe they were removed by robot arms once he wouldn’t be able to do more than grasp feebly at the carbonite being sprayed at him. But why even have them there in the first place? It’s not as if he was going to be able to run away. Maybe it was Stormtrooper procedure.
Don’t they release Han’s binders just before they lower him? I seem to recall one of the guards doing something with his hands before the platform starts downward.
I confess I’m not up on my ESB and RoTJ viewings. I’ve seen ANH more than three hundred times, but the latter two I’ve only seen twelve or thirteen times. (And I’ve seen the prequels exactly twice each.)
Someone frame-by-frame this and put the debate to rest, wouldja?

It’s been pointed out that Artoo is the *real* hero of the entire Star Wars franchise–and the only one who actually knows the entire story from beginning to end. C3PO got his memory wiped at the end of Ep3…but R2 managed to avoid it. Which does put an interesting spin on his reactions to Yoda in ESB. 🙂
