Star Wars Animated: Tales of the New Republic

Star Wars Animated: Tales of the New RepublicWith all the talk about Star Wars: Rebels, the new animated series to follow on from Clone Wars, I thought I’d post this video I found recently of a fan made project made in 2007. Star Wars Animated: Tales of the New Republic is set after Return of the Jedi, and this teaser trailer builds up to the era by flashing through clips of iconic scenes from the Prequel and the Original trilogies.

As fan of the OT material, this project is closer to my interests than Clone Wars and seeing something like this would have been very cool. I almost wonder if it might have been made as a potential pitch to LucasFilm. However, with Clone Wars in the works in 2007, its chances would have been slim. And, as so many people love to point out, the animated lacks the polish of big budget and fully resourced studio. That said, it’s a wonderful and truly impressive fan creation. To be able to sit at a computer and animate so many characters, props and scenes shows true dedication and talent.

Warning: If you view the clip below on Youtube’s website, do not follow the links the uploader posted in their description for the video. At least one of them goes to Japanese website and I can’t vouch for the safety of the links. So, if you don’t want to chance getting something bad on your computer, stick with the video only.

I just want to remind people that the current legit animated series in the works from Dave Filoni and LucasArts, Star Wars: Rebels, is set BEFORE Star Wars: A New Hope, but after Revenge of the Sith. So, the flavor of the series will be very different from the fan video above. I’m just sharing this fan project because I know a lot of you, like myself, will appreciate it.
