You may be thinking… hmm.. why is this blog so quiet? Well, I turned off comments for a start. I’ve been a bit inundated with “things” lately so my focus has been solely on the strip and not the accompanying thoughts. Leanne and I have been busy preparing all-new BMS art for the Jedi-Con in Dusseldorf, Germany on Oct 3-5. It’s now less than 2 weeks away!

We are proud to have contributed brand new BMS illustrations for the Jedi-Con program booklet, as well as a special banner for our friends at Jedipedia who will also have a booth at the show. Some signage art has also been thrown into the mix, along with a new German BMS poster. We will reveal this deluge of artwork soon to readers.

In the meantime, if you happen to be in Europe and can make it to Dusseldorf for the Oct 3-5 weekend, then please check out Jedi-Con and consider stopping by. I think this could very likely be the first and last time we will ever be at a European show, so unless you’re planning on coming to the USA in the near future, this is a rare opportunity to hang out with us.

More on Jedi-Con soon, but in the meantime, check out their website.

I’ve become a big fan of Larry Blamire’s Skeleton movies (Lost Skeleton of Cadavra, and The Skeleton Returns Again), & Dark and Stormy Night. These movies really appeal to me, not only because they are sci-fi spoofs, but because they are inspired by classic (and not so classic) movies from the 30s and 50s.

I doubt many readers will even know about these obscure indie films that were released over the last decade and it’s a real shame, but also part of what makes them instant cult works. Sadly, I don’t know anyone who has seen them so the best I’ve been able to do is share them with Leanne… so far.

bogart_lrI’m a big Humphrey Bogart and Jimmy Stewart fan. Some of my favorite movies include To Have and Have Not, Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, Harvey, Rear Window, The Thing from Another World, Forbidden Planet, Some Like it Hot. I’m a fan of Old Time Radio “Suspense”, “Box 13”, “Boston Blackie”, “The Whistler”. I like classic British horror films, Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee. Quatermass. Classic 1960s Doctor Who. Space Patrol marionette television series. Corny stuff.

I say all of this, because I’d love to hear from fellow classic and genre movies and television aficionados who appreciate any of the above. So often I’m surrounded by people who seem to only have an interest in contemporary pop-culture, or the recent retro. If you feel like chatting then shoot me an email.

The awesome portrait on the left was done by BMS artist Leanne Hannah.
