Originally, the Imperial freighter was going to be substituted for the Planet Express, in what would have been part of a Futurama crossover subplot. That, however, just complicated the strip and we knew we needed to stay on target.

Blue Milk Special Annapolis Comic Con 2013

Leanne and I had a very enjoyable time at Annapolis Comic Con. Our friend Charles won Best Costume Award for his A’Sharad Hett costume. It is one of MANY that Charles cosplays. Charles is the Executive Officer of the Rebel Legion’s Terrapin Base, always ready to recruit anyone who is serious about cosplaying “the good guys” from Star Wars.

He commissioned a great sketch of the character from Leanne.

We also had a great time with Eric and Shep from the 501st Legion’s Old Line Garrison. Eric even joined me behind the table for a while and covered for Leanne and myself as we ran off to treat ourselves to a photo opportunity with some meaningful nostalgia from our past. Or is that future? Never can tell with time travel. We’re both indebted to Eric for his support and kindness. A true friend. In fact, I made this little something as a thank you.

On the left is the original sketch Leanne drew for Eric in 2011. On the right is my version, all done from a photo we took of the sketch back in 2011 before handing it over to its new owner.

And our friend Karen showed up in her Slave Leia outfit for a non-Star Wars commission that Leanne had been busy with in the last few weeks. I met a number of fellow local artists and creators, including Octopus Tree House who have some of the cutest artistic takes on Star Wars characters we have ever come across! Take a look at their work.

Leanne also drew Mara Jade for the first time, courtesy of Finn the Swede, a local reader who came to the show to see us.

A special thank you to Ben Penrod and Awesome Promotions for organizing the con. Go support his Kickstarter for Awesome Com DC 2014. They are nearly at their goal!
