Many Bothans Died…
We kick off 2015 with what is officially our 100th strip from Return of the Jedi. One hundred seems like a lot, especially when we’re barely half way through ROTJ. However, we should be sailing smooth waters for the next few months as all that time working on the recent epic strip has resulted in a lot of new art for upcoming strips. But first, I want to introduce you to what I think is one of the best characters to come out of the Star Wars universe. Mostly thanks to the Henson workshop’s Timothy M. Rose and voice actor Erik Bauersfeld.
This strip was written between December 2008 and January 2009 before Blue Milk Special made its online debut. It’s taken that long to get through the previous movies doing each scene chronologically to finally get to what has been one of my personal favorite, and typically silly, gags. I hope you enjoy BMS Ackbar as much as I do and that our plans for him will surprise you.

With all those Bothans dying, the Alliance’s insurance rates must be through the roof. Good thing it’s not a union shop. Can you imagine Bothan union reps arguing with Mon Mothma and Admiral Ackbar over unsafe working conditions? And then one of them dies tripping over his feet or choking on his coffee or something, completely undermining their position.
…and I just gave away a future joke, didn’t I? lol
Strip Idea.
Vader is drinking a coffee.
Next panel we see that he is at a coffee shop, lightsaber out.
Lying on the floor, are several dead Bothans wearing red shirts, from Star Trek.
Vader is thinking to himself, “Nice Shirts”.
Cut to Akbar telling Leia, or Mothma, or someone, “Maybe the uniform design for the Bothans was not the best Idea I ever had”. 🙂
Is it possible their coffee machine is on an Imperial ship somewhere? It’d be weird, but explain why they all died. Maybe the Empire took it or something. Maybe it’s the one Vader’s using right now?
The delivery of the last panel literally made me laugh out loud this morning. Brilliant execution!
