Prince Sheezor
In the audio adaptation of Shadows of the Empire (abrdiged down to 3 hours and with added Star Wars SFX!), Xizor’s name is pronounced quite differently than the English spelling would imply. Thanks to T. Gatto for the background used in today’s strip.
We need to get serious for a moment. We have some tragic news that moved both Leanne and myself deeply. Here’s what Emily from the 501st Legion’s Old Line Garrison shared with us…
On January 31st, a Frederick (Maryland) family lost everything in a house fire. Worse, they lost their two youngest daughters, Sophie and Madigan. They’re surviving daughter, Morgan, is 8 years old and a huge Star Wars fan.
The mom has been asking friends and family to send cards to Morgan with words of encouragement and support while they try to rebuild their lives. A neighbor got in touch with us and we’d love to get on board.
The Plan:
In the next couple weeks, we’d like everyone in the garrison to write a card to Morgan. When lots of cards are gathered, we’ll set up a time to present all the goodies to Morgan, in person and in costume!A lot of you have contacts in other garrisons, so please pass this along to them! The more the merrier!
When you’re done, you can mail them to me at the below address. Or if you see me at a troop, pass them along to one of the command staff.
The mom is really excited about this and I know we can blow them away with support. Thanks in advance!

Leanne will be illustrating a special pinup for Morgan and I’ll be coloring it and framing it to give to the family. We will preview the picture online soon in the hope it will inspire others to contribute in anyway that they can to an outpouring of support and love for a child and family that need it. Please take a moment to consider how much a simple letter or donation of a piece of Star Wars memorabilia would mean to the family after their terrible loss.

I now need to but a Xizor figure for the miniatures battles game, just so I can kill it repeatedly. 🙂

Sheezor is more like a Spanish pronunciation, or Chinese, or something. If the author wanted English speakers to say “Sheezor,” they should have chosen a better spelling!

Living in Sweden, I’m not sure if there’s anything I can do (mailing to the US isn’t exactly cheap for me >.<), but if you're making a list or scrap-book as we did back here when my friend died, where people could write down their names to show support for his mother, just ask me and I can email my name, or something.
On another note, I always pronounce names that begin with an "X" as "Ksi" or "Zi". probably because I'm swedish(note, in swedish "ee"-sounds are spelled with a single "i"). I also think it's influenced by the Pokemon Scizor.
From today to the 18th they're showing all six episodes on the swedish channel 6. what suprised me is that they're aparently going for the production order, whereas every other time they have aired togheter on swedish television it has been in chronological order. perhaps it's in order not to spoil the story for new viewers, as has been discussed on this site earlier? For me either way goes, as I've seen them countless times. I just got curious as to why suddenly change a traditional broadcasting order?
I’m sure even just a name to add to the Old Line Garrison’s card, but we completely understand that it might be difficult for our international readers to pitch in due to geographic and time-frame limitations.
I used to get really frustrated as a kid when the cartoons I would watch would be aired out of order. In one case, a Part 2 or a two part story aired a week before part 1! Talk about shitty!

reminded me of how suprised I was when I heard ones apprentice(if you choose the sith inqusitor-class) Xalec, from The Old Republic game, being referred to as “Zay-leck” repeatedly by his “class’s” overseer, and not “Ksah-leck”, as I had :/

As for Xizor/Sighs-oar/Kaiser/Cheez-it, I solve the problem of how to pronounce it by pretending he doesn’t exist. Well, except in BMS, cuz that’s the only place he’s not lame.
In the book, they cleverly showed the pronunciation of Xizor’s name by having the computer in his chair slur his name. It called him “Prince Sheeezor.”
The letter X is pronounced like an English “SH” in some other languages, like Portuguese and Mandarin Chinese (when they write it in roman letters instead of Chinese characters). So I guess that must be where he (they?) got the idea from.
